My Son Wants To Be Spider-Man When He Grows Up

when i grow up

“When I grow up I want to be in Katy Perry‘s band,” my friend’s 3 year old told her.

“And I want to be a ferry worker. On Saturday I will work on the ferry boat and on Thursday I will help Katy Perry.”

Now that’s ambition. According to a survey by LinkedIn, one in 11 people are working in their childhood dream job. That’s not too surprising, especially if you ask your kids what they want to be when they grow up.

I also have a 3 year old, and asked him what he wanted to be when he grows up. Charlie didn’t miss a beat. “Spider-Man,” he matter-of-factly deadpanned.

I then asked my 5 year old son, Zacharie.

“I want to be on the news with you,” he said. Well, that’s not going to be too hard. As a media writer, and host, I’ve brought my son to work often. He’s been in the newspaper, on the radio, and Good Morning America. So that goal will be easy to meet.

I asked him what else. “I want to make sure when I have a day off from work, i’ll be a firefighter,” he added. “And a police officer.” Of course.

Be a super-hero, and a weekend fire fighting police man who reads the news. Not bad. Are you working your dream job from when you were a kid? Here’s what the survey says our picks were when we were younger.
