My mom is fantastic. She is, bar none, the most amazing person I know. As the oldest girl in a family of 14 (FOURTEEN?!) she was a mother far before I was ever born; she took care of her siblings in a time in Ireland when life wasn't easy, food was scare, and money was almost mythical. When she and my father moved to Canada they did it with almost nothing – and me coming along certainly didn't make the situation any easier. But they persevered, with my father working over an hour away and my mother taking on what jobs she could to make ends meet.
They didn't neglect my education, teaching me to read before I ever saw the inside of a schoolhouse. Mom was there for me every day at lunch, and again at the end of the day to guide me and to love me. Even in those rebellious teenaged years we still got along. My motivation for everything I do always has an undercurrent of making her proud.
The most wonderful thing has started to happen over the past few years. My mother (and my dad) have given up their fear of technology. For some reason the frightening boxes that needed power, batteries, DVDs and remote controls have ceased to terrify them. They're taking digital pictures. They're skyping. And even though I'm 3000 kilometers away, it seems like they're just next door.
I miss them – mom especially (talking to Dad is like looking in a mirror. A mirror that's old and forgets things). She's been making little videos with her digital camera, but it's a hassle to play with. For mother's day she'd love a FlipHD – and it means that I'd get to see more of them every day, even if it's through YouTube

I don;t care about winning a flip something, but want to comment on your blog and twitter posts and my mom.
Firstly, (if that is a real word), I love your twitter posts. This is the first time I have been to your blog, but I want to tell you how great it is to see such a positive parenting perspective from a father.
I realize that there are a lot of great fathers out there, but we here FROM them too seldom. Perhaps the reason for that is the same as why we don't hear from single parents with deadbeat dads – they are too darn busy with thier families to talk about it.
My mom is now quite old and has alzheimers, early to mid-stage. We have the same conversation over and over again every few minutes now. Her life was not easy. She grew up on a homestead farm, rode a horse to school, supported herself after grade 12 and then held our family together, both financially and physically, until all six kids left the nest, because she felt she had no options if she were to provide for us.
For many years I resented her for the life we experienced growing up. Only as I really “grew up” did I come to truly love and appreciate and understand the sacrifices that she made for us kids. Looking back, I now see the eggshells she walked on every day, and the stress that she was under.
Fortunately, my mom had the chance to remarry and spend over 20 years with a wonderful husband, father, step-father and man. Though we lost him 2 years ago, my mom is the first one to say how lucky she is to have had those years with him. We all were. Yet, when I look in her eyes, I see pools of sorrow.
“No matter,” she says. “I am so lucky!” “We had a happy house, we had a happy life!”
They did indeed have a happy house, overflowing with family and friends, welcomed and loved with open hearts and lots of laughing and loving.
My mom won't remember any of the cards that she gets this Mother's Day. She won't remember who called, or what they said. But she will be happy.
And because of her I am blessed.

My mom likes a simple camera to take pictures when she travels to Europe — a simple way to take movies would be even better.
My mom is the best! She is simply an amazing mom. Her motherly intuitions show my siblings and I how much she loves us. She does everything for us and always tries to make sure we are doing the best we can. My mother is supportive and she means everything to me. One time when I got off work in the evening, my sister told me earlier that day that she would pick me up…turned out that she was extremely tired and was sleeping when I called home – wondering where she was and what was taking so long. I had forgotten to bring bus fare that day and I had no way of going home except to walk (which would take me hours, considering how exhausted I was from work – and it was already dark outside) My sweet mom told me to wait there for her; she said she would bring me bus fare (she cannot drive, so she takes the bus). I waited there not too long before my mother came with my bus fare. I hate to say it, but It made me realize how much I take her for granted – I appreciated what she did for me – how she took this time out of her night just to come pick me up and give me fare for the bus. When we got home, my mom even made me steak for dinner! My mom is awesome, she is very caring and kind. Even though I don't tell her enough, I love her very much. There are no words in this world that could express how much I love her.

She should have the Flip Ultra HD to make movies because it would be such an awesome present for her. She's never owned a cell phone or a camera or a camcorder – my mom is a very simple mom, haha. Giving her the Flip Ultra HD and learning how to use it with her would be such an amazing experience. I think she would use it to record the most random things!
I love my mom, because she makes the best food in the world. Me & my brother like to do all kinds of cool things with our mom. It would be awesome to have a video camera to record it all and be able to share it with people. My mom is the best mom ever! I love her no matter what.

I would love to have this for my own mom . She needs something easy to use and she has 13 grandchildren (with #14 on the way) to take videos of. Technology passed my mom by and the simpler the better. This sounds perfect for her!!
I love my own Mother so much because of her self-less acts all her life to give us everything she could! She should have the super-easy flip ultra HD because her kids & grandkids are her life, and she is not tech-savvy so the fact that this is really easy to operate would be perfect for her!
